GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH VICTORIA FALLS

Victoria Falls has an impressive list of credentials; the widest curtain of falling water on earth, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of only seven natural wonders on the planet.

Victoria Falls is a spectacular waterfall, and plunges into a 300ft gorge and spans the 1.5km width of the Zambezi River. Victoria Falls is also considered the adventure capital of Africa.

The Victoria Falls is undoubtedly the most famous destination in Zimbabwe. With its central location to Zambia, Namibia and Botswana, Victoria Falls makes the perfect place to include in your African safari. Victoria Falls makes a great spring from which to explore Okavango and Chobe.

The mighty curtain of water that is Victoria Falls, is known by the locals as Mosi-oa-Tunya or “Smoke that Thunders”.

These truly spectacular Falls were made known to the outside world in 1855 by Scottish explorer extraordinaire, David Livingstone while attempting to find a route to the East Coast of the African continent. Travelling south east from Luanda to Sesheke, he encountered this spectacular waterfall and renamed it the Victoria Falls after the British Monarch, Queen Victoria. Livingstone was led to the Falls by an indigenous tribe the Makalolo in a dug-out canoe.

Victoria Falls is an exciting year round destination. Its situation in the northern part of Southern Africa allows it to experiences mild winters thus making it the ideal destination for all travellers.
